A heartfelt farewell to Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Katie Mraz

Today, it is with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to someone who has been at the heart of our organization’s growth and impact – our remarkable Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, Katie Mraz. While this is a bittersweet moment, we want to take a moment to celebrate and express our deep gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve had together.

From the very first day she joined our team, Katie brought a boundless enthusiasm and a determination to make a difference. Her impact on ArtStream, particularly in the realm of volunteer programs and outreach, has been nothing short of extraordinary. When she stepped into the role of Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, she inherited the bare bones of a volunteer and outreach program with potential and transformed it into a powerful force for good, creating and establishing systems and procedures for outreach and retention. Katie’s vision and dedication not only expanded our volunteer network but also deepened our connection with the community. She recognized that volunteers are the lifeblood of any nonprofit and made it her mission to ensure our volunteers felt valued, supported, and inspired.

Under Katie’s guidance, ArtStream’s volunteer program evolved in incredible ways. She cultivated a vibrant community of volunteers who shared her passion for our cause. Their involvement grew, not just in numbers but in impact. She created new, innovative initiatives that engaged volunteers on a whole new level, from community events to online campaigns. Her hard work and creativity have led to a positive ripple effect, touching the lives of countless individuals. Katie’s outreach efforts have been equally inspiring. She tirelessly connected with local businesses, schools, and other organizations to foster collaboration and mutual support. Her ability to convey ArtStream’s mission with passion and authenticity has earned us new partners and friends, expanding our reach and our ability to create change.

As Katie moves on to new adventures and challenges, we want to assure her that her legacy within our organization will continue to thrive. Her dedication and vision have left an indelible mark on our volunteer program and outreach efforts. Katie’s departure is a loss to ArtStream, but we are excited for the opportunities and adventures that lie ahead for her. We have no doubt that wherever she goes, she will continue to inspire and create positive change, just as she has here.

Please join us in extending our warmest wishes to Katie as she embarks on this new chapter. We look forward to seeing the wonderful ways in which she will continue to make the world a better place.

ArtStream: How did you first get started with ArtStream?

Katie: I started with ArtStream the beginning of 2022 after a brief hiatus from work. My background is in Psychology, childcare, and working with individuals with disabilities so when I saw ArtStream was hiring I jumped at the opportunity. I loved the idea of being able to support individuals with disabilities in a performing arts setting, it was something so unique that I hadn’t heard of before. As I learned more about ArtStream and all the amazing things taking place, I knew I wanted to join the team and help make a difference.

ArtStream: Why do you think ArtStream’s mission is important?

Katie: Having worked with adults with disabilities prior to ArtStream, I noticed there is a significant drop off of services after individuals leave the school system. I’ve personally seen this myself as I have a younger brother with a learning disability, and once he left public school there were fewer resources available to support him. Organizations like ArtStream provide essential services to adults with disabilities in a fun, creative, and safe environment, which is so needed. I am so grateful that I was able to support ArtStream’s mission and help make a difference in the lives of our students and families.

ArtStream: What is the biggest lesson you learned while working at ArtStream?

Katie: The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to simply breathe. At the end of the day, we are all on the same team, working towards the same mission, and it’s important to stop and remember that. Just taking a few seconds out of my day to stop, breathe, and refocus myself have gone a long way, and I can credit a technique I learned in an ArtStream class, four square breathing.

ArtStream: What is one of your most heartwarming memories at ArtStream?

Katie: It’s hard to narrow down my most heartwarming memory, there have been a fair share! One of my favorites was seeing the impact that our scholarships have for our students and families. The amount of joy and appreciation our families expressed to be able to participate in an ArtStream program made all the work more than worth it. It brings a smile to my face just thinking of it now! I’m going to miss interacting with the students and families and wish them all the best!

ArtStream: If you could give one last word of encouragement to the ArtStreamers, what would it be?

Katie: You’ve got this! Year after year ArtStreamers are breaking down barriers and showing just how amazing each one of you are. Keep up the fantastic work, remember to take a breath when needed, and most importantly you’ve got this!
