Student Spotlight: Meet Eli Lewis

Eli is an actor living in Rockville, Maryland. He grew up in North Chevy Chase, Maryland. Eli has been acting with ArtStream for over twelve years and served as the client representative on the ArtStream Board of Directors from 2016 to 2017. Eli also performed with Imagination Stage and at summer camp. He works at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a supply clerk. Eli enjoys collecting movie tickets and Special Olympics medals.

We chatted with Eli to hear what he loves more about ArtStream.

ArtStream: What have you learned at ArtStream?

Eli: I learned how to do monologues really well. I also learned that it’s okay to mess up a line, but make sure there is someone helping you to figure it out together.

ArtStream: What is one of your favorite classes at ArtStream?

Eli: I like the acting ones a lot. I also took directing, and it was a lot of fun. I love being in-person best, but online was fun too. I take classes and am in Silver Spring Company A. ArtStream is a fun thing to do, and you can make friends.

I like Super Social Saturdays and live in the building where the class is. I like that each month has a theme. If I could pick a theme, it would probably be superheroes and princesses.

ArtStream: What is your favorite part about acting in ArtStream shows?

Eli: I like when the audience claps at the end. That’s the best part! I like sharing my ideas too. We work together and listen to our ideas. I’ve played a superhero and an old man. I get to play lots of roles.

ArtStream: How do you come up with your characters?

Eli: I come up with a voice or a funny joke to start. I am a creative guy. I do like to play funny roles.

ArtStream:  What advice would you give someone who gets nervous on stage?

Eli: Be excited, but it’s okay to be a little nervous. Be courageous, and have fun!
