Hi! I’m Reid, the summer intern for ArtStream! This is a mini blog series which chronicles the experience of a mentor in the Comedy Scenes class.
In the first class of Comedy Scenes we learned about how to make different kinds of vaudevillian style, called the carpenter dog joke. Once we had each performed, we then discussed what we though made something funny. We decided that something unexpected and unknown or surprising is what makes something funny. To end the night we got into small groups and each group performed an improvised skit. Each skit was two minutes long and consisted of two-three actors. We also started to think about what we wanted our comedy scenes that we are going to show at the end of the 4 week class to be. In general it was a very successful night!
