Jude Crannitch
Jude Crannitch is a visual artist and musician originally from New Zealand, drawn to the US for its cultural and racial pluralism and diversity and an abiding love for its classical musical art form –jazz, blues and gospel.
He has taught visual art, performance art and music at Washington Very Special Arts (WVSA), an organization serving youth with special needs, for the last 20 years. In this capacity he applies the principle that art is a process of self-discovery, which gives the artist a perspective on him/herself in the context of the internal and external environment.
His work includes music and art infusion through Studio G at Georgetown University Hospital’s pediatric unit over the last 18 years. He has also conducted art and music sessions at DC Veterans Hospital working with post traumatic stress (PTS) patients and elderly veterans in the nursing home.
Over the years of applying the rudimentary elements within art and music he has gained an appreciation of their power to transcend the barriers that otherwise block communication and healing.
