Community Film Premiere - A New Kind of Listening
A New Kind of Listening is a powerful documentary about a young man with profound disabilities who joins an experimental theatre group to help create a compelling performance piece. It also deals intimately with this young man's lifelong struggle to be seen as a complete person - not just a "disabled person."
A New Kind of Listening is a part of the Inclusive Arts Campaign. The Campaign's hope is that screenings of this powerful documentary will help to lay the groundwork for inclusive arts projects wherever it is screened. Visit www.anewkindoflistening.com to see a trailer for the film and find out more!
Sally Kinka, an ArtStream co-founder and head of our North Carolina branch, was in attendence to talk about ArtStream's mission and about her newly forming Raleigh Inclusive Theatre Company. Sally also showed clips from the Gaithersburg Inclusive Company's 2009 production, A Mystery to Me.
This screening is part of a new inclusive arts project in Raleigh, the Arts for All Cabaret, and is co-sponsored by Triangle Interplay, Arts Access, First In Families, ArtStream, and North Raleigh Arts and Creative Theatre (NRACT).
