Marcia Howard

Marcia Howard is a dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and artist in residence. As a faculty member, she teaches West African dance at Dance Place and Coyaba Academy for the Arts, in Washington, DC. She is an Adjunct Faculty member at American University. Ms. Howard is the Artistic Director of Sketches of Dance (special needs populations) and Assistant Director of Coyaba Dance Theater (West African Dance).

As a performer, she is a principal dancer with Coyaba Dance Theater and collaborates with various dance projects in the metropolitan area. As a choreographer, she has worked extensively at Imagination Stage in Bethesda, MD and Dance Africa DC, held at Dance Place.

As an Artist in Residence, Ms. Howard currently works with Imagination Quest and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning.

Ms. Howard attended Les Ballet du Senegal dance intensive in Dakar, Senegal, with Artistic Director, Bouly Sonko and continues to study African dance with Sylvia Soumah, Artistic Director of Coyaba Dance Theater. As a modern dancer, she studied and performed with, Erika Thimey Dance and Theater Company, Gesel Mason Performance Projects, Eva Anderson and Baltimore Dance Theater. She attended Howard University, Washington, DC.
